Dr. Kim van der Marel studied medicine at Leiden University. During her medical studies she conducted scientific research into the results of myringoplasties (tympanic membrane closures).
After her medical finals in 2009, she started her PhD research in Leiden, for which she won several prizes at international conferences and received an AIOSKO grant.
In 2013 she obtained her PhD with the thesis ‘Unraveling the implanted cochlea: radiological evaluation of cochlear morphology and electrode position in CI patients’ under the supervision of prof. dr. ir. J.H.M Frijns.
The last year of her training she partly attended the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital to further develop herself in the field of skin tumors and salivary gland tumors.
In 2019 she completed her training as an ENT doctor in Leiden and worked for 1 year as a general ENT doctor in Haarlem and Hoofddorp at the Vijf Meren Kliniek. After this she completed a fellowship in otology and dermato-oncology for 2 years at the Diakonessenhuis in Utrecht and Zeist.’
